The FlorStar story begins in 1850 with the founding of Carson Pirie Scott. Over its history, Carson's operated various businesses, including a wholesale flooring division. In the 1980’s, Carson’s chose to focus upon its core retail operations. Consequently, the company sold off the flooring division to a management group on May 16, 1988. The new owners renamed the division FlorStar Sales, Inc.

Our founding principles continue to guide us, quality people, tremendous brands, and state-of-the art technology remain philosophical cornerstones. Our logistics are the finest in the region, if not the nation anchored by a state-of-the art warehouse super center and corporate headquarters located in Romeoville, IL, FlorStar has come a long way from its inception in 1988. We are now one of the largest wholesale floor covering distributors in North America. However, we remain family-owned and operated and neither have forgotten the challenges facing independent business people nor lost the entrepreneurial spirit upon which our country and this company were built. While we are proud of our growth, ultimately we are not concerned with being the biggest, only with being the best.
